Quick facts
- Origin: China, 2,000+ years old
- Lineage: Classical Daoist medical and sexological texts
- Primary teachers: Mantak Chia, Stephen Chang, Classical: the "Su Nu Jing" and "Yu Fang Mi Jue"
- Primary techniques: Microcosmic orbit, Sexual energy circulation, Semen retention practices, Healing love practices
Where it comes from
Taoist sexual cultivation has a textual tradition stretching back at least 2,000 years in China, distinct from Indian tantra. It frames sexual practice in terms of energy (qi/jing), longevity, and balance — not divine union.
What you actually do
Specific solo and partnered practices designed to cultivate, circulate, and conserve sexual energy. The microcosmic orbit (running breath/energy up the spine and down the front) is the foundational practice.
Common misconceptions
- Taoist practice is the same as tantra (different tradition, different goals)
- Semen retention is the central point (it is one technique among many)
Who this is best for
- Men interested in energy circulation and the microcosmic orbit
- People drawn to a longevity/health framing rather than a spiritual one
Who this is NOT for
- People uncomfortable with energy-language framing
How it shows up in Tantra Clinic programs
We teach a simplified microcosmic orbit and healing-love practice in The 30-Day Erection Reset and Couples Tantra Foundations.
