Where it comes from
Tibetan Tantra is a regional flowering of Vajrayana Buddhism. The practices were transmitted from India and adapted within the Tibetan plateau over twelve centuries.
What you actually do
Most practitioners do daily deity yoga and Mahamudra/Dzogchen sitting practice. The famously "tantric" practices like karma mudra are reserved for very advanced yogis under specific conditions.
Common misconceptions
- All Tibetan monks practice sexual yoga (extremely few do)
- Tibetan tantra is the only authentic tantra (it is one major branch)
