Is this you?
- You can get hard to porn but not with a real partner
- You need increasingly extreme content to feel arousal
- You've noticed your taste in porn drift toward content you don't identify with
- Your morning erections have faded
- You have to mentally cue porn imagery to maintain a partnered erection
What the research says
The Lancet published a review article in 2017 explicitly recognizing PIED as a clinical pattern. Multiple recovery studies (notably reboot communities like NoFap and YourBrainOnPorn) document recovery in the 30–90 day range with porn cessation.
How tantra approaches this
PIED responds to a two-stage protocol: (1) hard reset — eliminate porn for the recovery window, (2) re-sensitize — slow, attentive solo and partnered touch that re-trains the nervous system to respond to real bodies. Tantric breath and slow practice are particularly well-suited to the re-sensitization phase.
Recommended practices
- The 90-day porn reset (beginner, ~1 min) — Foundational protocol. No porn, fantasy minimal, masturbation reduced and reformed.
- Slow-touch solo practice (beginner, ~20 min) — Re-builds sensitivity after death-grip and high-stimulation porn use.
- Eyes-open partnered presence (intermediate, ~15 min) — Replaces porn imagery with the partner actually in front of you.
Real outcomes
- D., 32. 90 days clean, ED resolved. Five failed NoFap attempts before a structured tantric program worked.
When to see a doctor instead
If you have any cardiovascular risk factors or new-onset ED, get a baseline workup before assuming the cause is porn.
